These include giving the Attorney General the power to convene statewide grand juries to investigate corruption; empower local prosecutors, with court approval, to use wiretapping in corruption investigations; and give the legislative inspector independent power to investigate corruption cases and issue subpoenas. It would also impose a strict one-year revolving door ban on lawmakers from becoming lobbyists.
Senate Bill 4 is currently on the Senate calendar pending a final decision. The deadline for final action is Friday May 21, although this deadline may be extended. The Republican package, which was presented Thursday, May 13, has not yet been entrusted to a substantive committee.
NEW MASK GUIDE Governor JB Pritzker issued a new executive order on Monday, May 17, which allows fully vaccinated residents not to wear masks indoors and outdoors.
The updated rules for wearing the mask are almost identical to the updated guidance from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, released Thursday.
CDC advice allows fully vaccinated individuals not to wear masks or physically distance themselves in any non-medical facility, “except as required by federal, state, local, tribal or territorial laws, rules, and regulations, including business guidelines and local workplaces.
